Don't Be Stupid
For a change, this rant isn't against school. It's against stupid students. You'll see what I mean if you read on.
Recently, the mall in my city hosted a fundraiser called "Stuff the Bus". People could donate school supplies of all kinds or cash, and they would literally "stuff" a bus with the donations. Everything donated was to be distributed to the school board so the students would have enough supplies the next school year.
I was walking through the mall, when the event was announced on the radio (they play the radio in some sections of our mall). I overheard somebody, who appeared to be about 12-13 years old say, "I'm not donating to the school board! I hate school!" Although many things can make me angry, this made me especially angry.
I thought, well, maybe school wouldn't be so bad if the school boards received donations from people like you! Of course, I normally would have actually said something to the kid, but I didn't want mall security coming, so I remained silent. Anyway, the point is, if you hate school, you wish it wasn't so boring, you want it to be more fun, etc, then why don't you get off your computer chair and do something about it! Somebody has to! That's the whole point of Ocyras! We need to really try to make a difference in our school system!
I know that a minority can make a difference. I've seen it happen. Ocyras has made a significant difference in a bunch of people's lives. (Most likely) All of them were from my school. But, a difference is a difference. Don't expect somebody else to do everything for you. If you want change, you can make change. The whole "Ocyras movement" can only work if more people help.
So, the bottom line is, don't be stupid. Don't boycott schools if you want them to be better. It's like an oxymoron without the "oxy". I've always wanted to say that. Anyway, if you want your schools to be better, go out and make them better. That way, everybody wins.
