Terrible Teachers
Sometimes you have a teacher that is just... terrible. Either they really don't teach anything, they're extremely strict, they get people in trouble for no good reason, or anything else. The point is, it really sucks when you get one of those teachers.
A prime example of this happened to me today. We had a substitute teacher, and she defintely wasn't a very good one. She yelled at everybody for no good reason.
The time that it stood out the most was when a student turned around to take a quick glance at the clock, and was yelled at for "not paying attention". Then, that student explained her case and asked for an apology from the teacher, only to be sent down to the office for the rest of the day.
Most of the class was pretty mad about this. Especially me, since I realized that all this was doing was showing how easily a student's rights can be stripped away by terrible teachers. So, I started talking to the teacher about the matter, stating well thought-out, intelligent points. All I got in return was "Go sit in your seat!" and "Just let it go!" That's when I got angry.
I organized a little protest-like thing with about 6 students and we started walking down to the office to speak to the principal about the matter. The teacher then said, "You want to talk to the principal? The I'll call her down here right now!" She then called the principal down to the classroom, which I thought would be great since it would be a great oppurtunity for a polite discussion of the matter.
When the principal arrived, all she did was yell at the entire class, pointing out how "disrespectful" and "rude" we had been.
So now, myself and the students who were with me will probably all get in some sort of "trouble" for sticking up for what we know is right. To be frank, it's really stupid.
In conclusion, I believe that students should be able to voice some sort of opinion on the teachers they are given, to avoid such incidents as above. That's all for this rant.
EDIT: I decided to edit this rant with the aftermath of the story above. Long story short, we all got a long "talking-to", and nobody got in any "trouble". Nothing serious happened, and no problems were solved. You know, the usual stuff that happens at school.
